Absolutely disapointing. The room smelled of smoke and was dusty, triggering my allergies. Plus, I expected a complimentary room upgrade for all my inconveniences, but no such luck. The staff seemed too busy to address my concerns. I almost gave a good review, but just couldn't with such an unremarkable experience.

Traditional and great breakfast combined with excellent service. Location right by the metro and bus lines, and Nishiki Market, the shopping streets of Teramachi, Kawaramchi, Pontocho alley and also Gion.

Had a lovely stay with a clean and spacious room that had all the supplies I needed, like tea and coffee. The hotel offered great relaxation options, including a soothing aromatherapy massage and foot reflexology. The only downside was the slightly outdated decor in some areas, but I'd definitely recommend this place for a cozy stay! 🌟

The staff is extremely helpful, the room is well furnished and full of useful stuff (tea pot, slippers, wired internet, ...). Its central location makes it very easy to travel from it.
The room can be relatively noisy, depending where they are located in the hotel.

The location is fantastic, just a short walk to the subway and popular attractions like Nishiki Market. Housekeeping did a great job keeping everything clean daily. The staff were helpful, especially when I needed transportation advice and luggage assistance. The room felt shockingly small for a double room, lacking space for luggage storage. The decor is dated and needs updating. The breakfast options could use improvement, as the Western breakfast I had was quite underwhelming with minimal variety. The lobby also had a strong cigarette smell, unpleasant s. Despite these issues, the convenience to various sites was nice.

Location not far from Sanjo Station and the huge covered shopping streets and the fish market. Well priced and traditional breakfast combined with good service.

The staff was excellent. And there was always someone on hand who spoke English, which is great for some international travelers. They made reservations for us, provided maps and directions, called taxis for us to make sure we got to the right locations. They were wonderful! The room was super clean and the quite roomy. Most Japanese hotel rooms are super small, but this one was typical of an American hotel room size. I would certainly recommend Hotel Gimmond to other travelers.
The only thing I could complain about is the location of the hotel. For someone who isn't familiar with Kyoto, it might be best to stay at a hotel closer to Kyoto Train Station, as access to places is easier -- and cheaper. But it the hotel was just a quick subway ride from Kyoto Train Station, so it wasn't really a major inconvenience.

Easy access to both of Kyoto's two main subway lines
Could have had in-room internet connection or wi-fi (even for extra fee)

ample cosmetic items, thoughtful travel maps, convenient vending machines
Room size felt shockingly cramped for the price!!! The mattress was horrendous, with springs that needed to be replaced!!! Thin walls allowed too much noise from neighbors!!! A self-service laundry option could be useful!!!

Excellent hotel in the heart of Kyoto close to a metro station and in an interesting part of town. I liked my room in the front of the hotel faced a major road was not noisy. There was plenty of space in my twin room which also included a settee and table and desk and chair. Friends staying in a room facing the back of the building had a smaller twin room. Both rooms were immaculately clean and well appointed. The hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful and solicitous for ways to be helpful. When I return to Kyoto I will definitely have the "Gommondo" as a taxi driver called as my preferred hotel and recommend it to other travellers.
Kyoto is a large city and this hotel is not immediately adjacent to any of the tourist sites. Nevertheless, a metro station is nearby and the city has a good bus service network which means you can get around easily. There were four of us in my party so we often resorted to taking a taxi as it was more economical that four fares.

The hotel was well located close to good shopping. Access to the Metro was very close and because the metro station is at the junction of two lines we were able to visit the sights of Kyoto very easily. The hotel is easy to find and the canopy over the door makes it easy to recognize. Good and affordable restaurants were within easy walking distance. The rooms at Hotel Gimmond are a good size for a Japanese hotel and the beds, although a little hard as in most Asian hotels were quite comfortable. The hotel has a pleasant, spacious and comfortable lobby area perfect for meeting friends or waiting for other guests. The rooms appear a bit dated but are very well maintained and do not distract from the comfort of the hotel.
The bedspreads were heavy and too warm for the hot summer weather we experienced while in Kyoto. However this is a minor problem and would certainly not deter me from staying here again.

clean, clean, clean
As a solo traveler, I was impressed by the super clean environment and the charming wooden furniture in my room. The air conditioning was kinda quiet. I also appreciated the regular room cleaning service, often lacking in budget options.
would recommend 🥰👍

Well located, clean and comfortable. The rooms don't exude much in the way of personality, but are larger than average for Japanese hotels, and have every amenity you could reasonably expect at this price. The staff in particular are very friendly and helpful.
